
The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) was
established as an autonomous body in July, 1991 (under the Public
Enterprise Act of 1989) to give effect to the Chicago Convention and
to monitor and regulate the aviation industry in the Gambia to
accepted international standards.

This Advisory Pamphlet
(AP) describes the process of applying for and obtaining an Air
Operator Certificate (AOC) to conduct commercial air transport
operations under Gambia Civil Aviation Regulations (GCARs).
The certification process may appear to be a complex undertaking,
particularly to a “first-time” operator. This AP provides basic
information applicable to the certification process

Information Service (AIS) is responsible for the collection and
dissemination of aeronautical information in the Banjul Control Zone
(CTR).
Aeronautical information is provided in the Aeronautical Information
Publication (AIP) Gambia and its updates/ amendments.

Prior to the advent of
the Directorate of Commerce (Dcom) in 1997, commercial, marketing
and promotion, business development and air transport and economic
regulations issues were scattered between departments, notably
Airport Operations and Flight Safety Standards (FSS)
